Although the outer side of most pre-made bags is Polyester (PET) and is receptive to printing inks, Pacific Bag is not aware of any equipment that would automatically print the exterior of a pre-made bag. In theory printing could be done on the flat areas of the face using screen printing or pad printing. Challenges to creating an automated system are:
- Since the ink is on the surface of the bag it is susceptible to scuffing or scratching.
- Areas with creases, folds, and valves would be difficult or impossible to print cleanly.
- Quantities printed are usually low and printing pre-made bags is usually a short term project before a user can move to a pre-printed bags. Therefore, large investment in equipment design and purchase is unappealing.
Full color printing can be applied to a pre-made bag via a printed label. Labels can be made in relatively low quantities by your local label supplier or in very small quantities using in-house, color ink-jet printing.* The labels can be applied in house or by PBi’s Stock Bag Custom Services. Please see your PBi representative for more information.
*Color labels can be printed on sheets with standard desktop printers or on machines designed to print on rolls of labels. Some suggestion for roll printers are:
